Platforms are mechanical devices provided with a lifting arm (articulated or telescopic) used to provide temporary access for people to inaccessible areas, usually at height. Aerial work platforms enable people to work in safe conditions without using scaffoldings, aerial ladders or maintenance rolling scaffolds. These devices are usually used in the construction industry, industrial equipment and removal sector. The demand of aerial platforms is increasing in the 90% of the aerial works, because the customer experiences money savings for his company as well as a better quality of work and more security than in the use of ladder and scaffoldings. There are different models of aerial platforms:
Vertical/personnel lift platforms: are the smallest existing platforms, exclusively electrical. They are equipped with a self-propelled wagon and a basket for a single person that rises vertically without the aid of a pantograph. This machine is used in intricate and narrow inside areas and because it is the lightest platforms, it can work even in areas with a weight limit per square meter, inaccessible to any other scissor lift.
They are the largest aerial work platforms capable of reaching working heights thanks to their extraordinary articulated and telescopic arms. There are several models: from the smallest reaching a height of 15 meters, to the more impressive that reaches more than 40 meters in height. Some of the most sophisticated models can have 5 control units, additional safety devices and special extendable axles, which increase the capacity and stability of the platform.
Boom trucks platforms are vans or real truck, which can circulate for urban streets and that mount in the back-train one or more hydraulic and extensible arms as any platform; it is more convenient for an operator to choose this type of machine as it can move without the use of a truck for the transport; platforms truck or truck-mounted platforms are designed to work exclusively on stabilizers and some models of enormous size, that can reach over 50 meters in height.
Trailer platforms have the same characteristics of the vertical telescopic, articulated or articulated telescopic platforms, with the only difference that they do not have movement capability of their own but need to be transported or drawn by other means. They usually have smaller size and capacity and lower weight than previous ones, but they are useful in small construction sites, given their high maneuverability and ease of movement.
